Julia, Rita, Debbie, Karen
Route - Coach and Horses Melton/Butley. Orford/ scenic route back towards Tunstall/Coach and Horses
Distance - 29 miles from pub, 33 miles for Rita! 2.5 hours riding.
After not being able to ride for 2 weeks due to awful weather, it was fantastic today to get out on the bikes again, on a glorious sunny day. The meeting place was Melton, but Rita decided to extend her ride by going to the wrong pub. Guessing what she had done, we waited patiently for her to turn up. She then got a lecture from Miss Bossy Chunky Bum about 'bringing a phone next time and where was her spare inner tube' .
Julia had suggested only doing a 'short ride' of 'about 12 miles' as she was feeling a bit lazy, but once we got going we decided the weather was just too nice to stop. We got a good move on to Orford, where we stopped for a delicious coffee. We abstained from the tempting looking cake and Julia produced some slightly squashed malt loaf, with the added addition of bits of kitchen roll stuck to it. So much nicer than the cake! We asked a poor unsuspecting lady on the next table to take a photo of us, which was great! We also met Bert the Border terrier, who was extremely cute, as well as about 20 other dogs. Never seen so many in such a small place! Debbie tried Julia's bike and got off after about 1 minute, declaring it was too difficult to ride.......
Meanwhile Julia could not find her sunglasses and found Karen trying to put Julia's on over her own....... clearly the coffee had got to her.
Before we left Orford we went down to the Quay to admire the view, and Julia embarrassed the others by asking a passing policeman if he would take a photo. He clearly had nothing better to do, which is not surprising if your patch is Orford (or is it the crime centre of Suffolk?) so agreed. That photo is now on our home page and is our first official group photo! Pity the group numbers were down, but at least we got 4 of us out today.
Debbie took us on the 'scenic route' back towards (or rather further away from) Woodbridge, but the views were spectacular. Every time we came to a left turn to head back, Debbie turned right...... It was worth it though, as it was such a pretty route.
Once we made the turn back onto the main road to Woodbridge though, the wind got up a bit and it was quite hard work. Poor Karen was only expecting a short ride but ended up doing a bit of a marathon. After a short emergency Jelly Baby stop we made it back. Just.
Over all it was a fabulous ride in fantastic weather!
