Route - Campsea Ashe to Thorpeness via Blaxhall/Snape/ Knodishall and back via Alderton/ Knodishall etc
Distance - 40 miles average. Time..... a long time!
Julia, Andrea, Rita, Trish, Sue, Karen, Averill, and Chris (a man!!)
This was one of the first rides we had done where all the Ride the Night riders attended, which was really good as it won't be long until we will be doing 63 miles - argh! Really must get a better saddle.
The weather was stunning - around 17C which is amazing for early March, and the whole ride to Thorpeness and back was so good Sue and Julia even did a little bit more to get to the 40 miles. Clearly mad. Averill rejoined us after sunning herself in Jamaica although she brought back up in the form of Chris, (the first ever man to dare to join our rides) and turned for home early. We let her off though as she normally sticks with it! We continue to increase our speed, and hopefully now the final member of our group has sorted out her road bike, we will be able to really get some lengthy rides in, ready for the big event.
At Thorpeness we stopped for coffee and various cakes, and Elfie's looked larger than her entire stomach - but I noticed she ate the lot!
We are all getting fitter. Sue has changed from finding it hard going on her hybrid to being a sleek carbon fibre assisted rocket, Elfie continues to amaze me with her stamina, which is very impressive for someone with a bus pass, Trish hardly ever turns up but when she does, barely breaks into a sweat and breezes round, Andrea just keeps going, mainly at the front at high speed, Averill seems to stroll along, looking cool and calm at all times, and Julia continues to be bossy, telling anyone who is flagging to get a move on. Karen has FINALLY (nearly) sorted out her road bike and will now find it much easier, so apart from Debbie, we all now have fast bikes. Debbie is still not allowed one as Julia is worried that she will be faster than her. And we can't have that!
As of today we have given the club a name - Women on Wheels or WOW! for short. This brilliant name was thought up by Sue, although Julia's husband Andrew thought 'Wobblers on Wheels' would be more appropriate......
Now we just need to work out our 'club kit'. Pink of course!
